Defending Health Across Borders
June 6 marks World Pest Day, a global recognition of the essential role pest management professionals play in protecting public health, food safety, homes, businesses, and communities.
This year also marks a major milestone: 10 years of World Pest Day. Established to raise awareness of the important work performed every day by professional pest management teams across the globe, World Pest Day continues to highlight one powerful message: pest management knows no borders.
Pests do not recognize borders, languages, or industries—and neither does our commitment to protecting health.
Rodents, mosquitoes, flies, termites, cockroaches, and other pests continue to threaten public health, food supplies, infrastructure, and quality of life worldwide. From homes and schools to hospitals, farms, restaurants, and urban centers, pest management professionals work behind the scenes every day to reduce these risks and help communities thrive.
The pest management industry plays a critical role in supporting public health around the world. Professionals help reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue, protect stored food products from contamination, preserve structures from costly damage, and support safer living and working environments for millions of people.
Here in Washington and across the Pacific Northwest, pest management professionals continue to demonstrate a strong commitment to education, science-based practices, environmental stewardship, and public health protection. Through continuing education, collaboration, and innovation, our industry remains united in its mission to protect people and property.
As we recognize the 10th anniversary of World Pest Day, we also celebrate the partnerships, professionalism, and shared purpose that strengthen our industry worldwide. No matter the region, the language, or the pest challenge, pest management professionals share one mission: protecting health and improving lives.
Happy World Pest Day from the Washington State Pest Management Association.
