Invasive Species (8:00 AM - 8:55 AM)

Led by Todd Murray from WSU, the discussion delves into identifying major invasive pests, such as the brown marmorated stink bug and emerald ash borer, and understanding their environmental and economic impacts. Attendees will explore effective monitoring, control methods, and preventative strategies, as well as compliance with regulatory requirements for managing invasive species. Through real-world examples and case studies, this session aims to equip professionals with the knowledge to protect both natural and urban environments from the threats posed by invasive pests.
Navigating the New Certification & Training Requirements for Washington Pesticide Licensees (9:00 AM - 9:55 AM)
Speaker: Tina Zimmerman (WSDA)
This session will provide an overview of the updated certification and training (C&T) requirements that will impact all pesticide licensees in Washington State. To comply with the updated federal C&T rule, WSDA will be updating all rules and requirements surrounding pesticide licensing, including category changes, training requirements, updates to direct supervision of non-certified applicators, and dealer recordkeeping. These changes will require a specialty credit for all licensees and even additional testing for some. This session is important in understanding how these changes affect your pesticide license.
Occasional Invaders (10:15 AM - 11:10 AM)

Todd Murray returns to address the control and management of occasional invaders—pests that enter structures seasonally or sporadically. This session explores identification, behavior, and prevention strategies for pests such as stink bugs, cluster flies, and Asian lady beetles. Attendees will learn about monitoring techniques, IPM-based exclusion methods, and when chemical treatments may be necessary. Special emphasis will be placed on educating clients about the nature of occasional invaders, setting realistic expectations, and providing solutions that minimize disruption. Sustainable Pest Management (11:15 AM - 12:10 PM)

Presented by Becky Macquire from WSDA, this session is designed to prepare pest management professionals for WSDA field inspections. Attendees will learn what to expect during an inspection, including required documentation, site readiness, and key compliance areas inspectors typically assess. Becky will cover strategies for effective communication with inspectors, responding to questions professionally, and handling inspection findings. The session also highlights common non-compliance issues and proactive steps to prevent them. By the end, participants will be well-prepared to navigate inspections confidently and use inspection feedback to improve their business practices.
