State Policy Affairs Representative (SPAR)
I am Billy Olesen, owner of PestStop, a family-owned pest management company with four generations of service. As an Associate Certified Entomologist (ACE) and recipient of the 2022 ACE Professionalism Award, I am committed to responsible and sustainable pest management practices.
I have gained a deep understanding of the pest management industry, gained through over 20 years of hands-on experience and active engagement in our industry and also industry-related organizations. I currently serve as your State Policy Affairs Representative (SPAR) for the Washington State Pest Management Association, where I advocate for the interests of you and your pest management professionals through legislative testimony, public education campaigns, and collaborative efforts with policymakers. I also serve on the Board of Washington Friends of Farms and Forests and as a Commissioner representing commercial applicators on the Commission for Integrated Pest Management.
As your SPAR, I will continue to:
- Advocate for policies that support the responsible use of pesticides: I will work to ensure that regulations are science-based, practical, and do not unduly burden our businesses.
- Promote public education and outreach: I will work to educate the public about the importance of pest management and the value of our services.
- Collaborate with other industry stakeholders: I will work with other industry organizations and stakeholders to address the challenges facing our industry.
- Support research and innovation: I will advocate for increased funding for research and development of new and improved pest management technologies.
I believe that every pest management company owner has a stake in the success of our industry. By actively participating and supporting WSPMA, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that our industry continues to thrive.
I encourage you to consider the vital role WSPMA plays and how it impacts our businesses. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient future for our industry.
Sincerely,
Billy Olesen
