Navigating EPA's Bulletins Live! Two for Rodenticide Applications
The EPA's Rodenticides Biological Evaluation (BE) has indicated likely changes to the way pest management professionals (PMPs) will have to approach rodent control/management. One of the key takeaways is the likely need to utilize the online system, Bulletins Live! Two (BLT), to identify species-specific and geographic-specific mitigation measures.
What is Bulletins Live! Two?
Bulletins Live! Two (BLT) is a web-based system that provides geographically specific mitigation measures to protect endangered and threatened species from pesticide use. These measures are often implemented as Pesticide Use Limitation Areas (PULAs), focusing on areas where pesticide exposure could negatively impact listed species.
History of BLT
BLT is the successor to the original Bulletins Live! system. While the initial system focused on county-level bulletins, BLT allows for more refined, species-specific, and geographically precise mitigation measures. This shift to a more granular approach is crucial for PMPs, as it ensures that mitigation efforts are targeted and effective without unduly restricting necessary pest control activities.
How to Use BLT
-
Access the BLT System: Visit the Bulletins Live! Two (BLT) website.
-
Enter Location Information: Input the location where you will be applying rodenticides. This could include the address, county, or zip code.
-
Review Bulletins: The system will generate a list of active bulletins for the specified location. These bulletins detail the mitigation measures required to protect listed species in the area. This must be repeated every 6 months to see if there has been any changes to the label.
-
Implement Mitigations: Carefully review and implement the specified mitigation measures. These may include restrictions on the type of rodenticide used, the application method, or the timing of applications.
