Session Spotlight: A Clear Picture — Retro Risk vs. Reward

Session Highlight

At this year’s WSPMA Summer Meeting, we’re diving deep into the often confusing world of workers’ compensation and retrospective rating programs (Retro) with a powerful session designed to educate and empower pest management professionals. "A Clear Picture: Retro Risk vs. Reward" will break down the true costs and potential savings of participating in Retro programs—and what red flags to watch for.

What is Retro?
Retro is a safety incentive program where participating businesses may earn a partial refund of their workers’ compensation premiums. While the potential savings can be attractive, understanding how claims impact your premium and refund calculations is essential. This session will provide attendees with a clear breakdown of experience rating modification (EMR), the difference between primary and excess losses, and the role of credible actuarial data in determining your rates.

But the session doesn’t stop at definitions—it will challenge participants to critically evaluate whether their Retro group is truly benefiting their business or creating hidden financial risks. Learn how to identify red flags in claim administration and how to ensure your Retro partner is aligned with your goals.
