Career Growth & Industry Pathways

Alea shared her transition from plant biology research into manufacturing sales and ultimately pest management, discussing how the industry provides unique opportunities for growth, leadership, and long-term career development. Members also shared their own career journeys and experiences entering the industry through different pathways.

ESA Symposium & Professional Visibility

The group reflected on the recent ESA conference symposium focused on career pathways in structural pest management. Discussion included overcoming public speaking anxiety, gaining confidence through experience, and the importance of visibility and representation within the industry.

PWIPM Events & Scholarship Fund

Samantha shared that the fourth annual PWIPM at the Park event sold out and successfully generated initial funding for the newly established PWIPM Scholarship program. The group also discussed the upcoming Steps of Hope fundraiser and explored transitioning the event to a more flexible virtual or hybrid format to encourage broader participation.

Hiring & Training Conversations

Attendees discussed current hiring challenges facing pest management companies and shared recommendations for onboarding and training new employees. The conversation emphasized the value of hiring based on personality and motivation, while leveraging training resources available through WSU and NPMA.
