Growing More Than Events

One of the highlights of the discussion was Sheila’s experience building Connecticut’s PWIPM chapter from virtually no participation into one of the most active chapters in the country.

She shared how the chapter’s annual Steps of Hope 5K, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to safely bring members together, has continued to grow each year. What started with only a handful of participants has evolved into a family-friendly event that raises thousands of dollars annually while strengthening relationships throughout the industry.

Sheila also discussed several successful fundraising initiatives, including:

• Annual wine and design events benefiting local charities
• A golf tournament that now raises $20,000–$30,000 annually to support industry advocacy and scholarships
• Community partnerships that continue to expand the impact of Connecticut PWIPM

Her message was simple but powerful: successful events are not built overnight—they are built through relationships, consistency, and volunteers who believe in the mission.

Giving Back Matters

The conversation also highlighted the many ways pest management professionals give back to their communities.

Members discussed WSPMA’s recent Steps of Hope fundraiser supporting the Safe House Project, upcoming community service projects, and the importance of continuing to invest in leadership opportunities for women entering the profession.

Sheila encouraged attendees to think beyond networking and consider how PWIPM can become a lasting force for positive change within local communities.

Meet the Speaker

Courtney Carace, ACE, is the Chief Operating Officer and co-owner of Pest-End, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the pest management industry. Since joining the company in 2004, she has held roles across operations, management, and leadership.

She holds pest control operator licenses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, earned her Associate Certified Entomologist designation in 2019, is a graduate of NPMA’s Executive Leadership Program, and currently participates in NPMA’s Leader Launch program. Courtney also serves as President-Elect of the New England Pest Management Association and is active on several NPMA and NEPMA committees.

Outside of work, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family, reading, relaxing by the pool, and enjoying a good tequila with friends.

Give Back Breakfast – August 22

As a reminder, the WSPMA Summer Meeting will include our annual Give Back Breakfast on Saturday, August 22.

In partnership with PestVets, attendees will assemble hygiene kits for shelters throughout Washington and prepare candy care packages for deployed service members. Everyone attending the Summer Meeting is encouraged to participate as we continue our commitment to serving both our industry and our communities.
