Legislative Update: HB 2516 – Rodenticide Use
Government Affairs
WSPMA is monitoring HB 2516, an active bill proposing a temporary statewide moratorium on anticoagulant and bromethalin rodenticides from 2027–2028 while further research is conducted. Although the sponsor has indicated it is not intended to move this session, WSPMA is treating it seriously, preparing responses, and working with partners. Members should stay informed, be ready for a call to action, and direct questions to policy@wspma.com.

Find Your Hive! February Hives Sign-Up Open

NPMA’s Hives program connects members in small, peer-led groups to build professional networks and support career growth. Over nine weeks, participants meet weekly for 30 minutes to share goals, discuss challenges, and exchange advice. Each Hive includes 5–7 members and a trained moderator. The program emphasizes active participation and safe, focused engagement, with encouragement to maintain connections beyond the Hive experience.

New WSDA C&T Quiz Available to Meet Updated Licensing Requirements

WSPMA members may provide employees with a direct link to the C&T quiz, allowing them to complete the requirement without accessing the WSDA SecureAccess Washington (SAW) portal. This option helps streamline the process for companies by reducing login and navigation barriers while ensuring employees can meet WSDA licensing requirements efficiently and on time.

Washington Friends of Farms & Forests (WFFF) Legislative Update
Government Affairs
Washington’s 60-day legislative session began January 12 and runs through March 12. Democrats control both chambers. Key issues include supplemental budget negotiations, housing policy, and new business taxes already in effect. Of interest to pest management: HB 2279 would expand WSDA authority to review and potentially deny pesticide registrations based on PFAS; SB 5360 would elevate certain environmental violations to felonies. The Governor’s proposed $79B supplemental budget includes funding for agricultural pest protection programs statewide.
