Sprague Promotes New Operations Manager for Spokane Branch

Sprague Pest Solutions promoted Jessie Peltier, A.C.E., to operations manager of its Spokane branch. A U.S. Navy veteran and former pharmacist, Peltier joined Sprague in 2020 and has served as branch trainer, safety captain, and Belonging Committee member. Known for mentoring colleagues and achieving top performance, he will now oversee branch operations, team development, and client partnerships across eastern Washington and northwestern Montana.

Notification of Rulemaking Activity

WSDA

WSDA has adopted amendments to chapter 16-228 WAC, General Pesticide Rules, effective October 31, 2025. Updates include expanded dealer recordkeeping, revised aerial applicator and pilot requirements, added federal FIFRA compliance language, clarified exam and licensing standards, new competency and supervision rules for non-certified applicators (including age limits), and general cleanup for consistency. The CR-103 filing and Concise Explanatory Statement detail the adopted rule changes.

Pest Stop Services partnered with Olympia’s Hands On Children’s Museum for the Boo Bash Halloween event, engaging families with live insects, microscopes, and even cricket tastings. The goal was to replace fear with fascination while teaching about biodiversity and pest management. The event highlighted how community outreach can safely inspire curiosity, science learning, and future careers in entomology and pest control.

Seasonal pest survey sees increase in Japanese beetles

WSDA

WSDA’s 2025 pest survey found a sharp rise in Japanese beetles, with 72,626 trapped—nearly triple 2024 levels—mainly in the Grandview area. SeaTac also saw a surge to 865 beetles, prompting plans to expand eradication into King County in 2026. Reduced property treatment consent (38%) hindered control efforts. Surveys also detected fewer spongy moths, no spotted lanternflies or northern giant hornets, and confirmed North America’s first sunflower broomrape in Yakima County.
