Washington Friends of Farms & Forests (WFFF) Legislative Update

Washington lawmakers are past the second major cutoff on day 33 of the 60-day session, with most activity now on floor debates and votes. Of 1,354 bills introduced, 389 remain alive; only three have passed both chambers. Budget negotiations are underway, with proposals released Feb. 22. Key notes for pest professionals: the rodenticide moratorium (HB 2516) is dead, several ag labor bills remain active, and tax, PFAS, and environmental crime measures are still in play.

Washington lawmakers are nearing key session cutoffs as bills race through fiscal and policy committees. Floor debates begin February 10, with House of Origin cutoff on February 17. A proposed 9.9% income tax on income over $1M (SB 6346/HB 2724) could impact business owners, including pass-through entities, and is likely to advance. Several agriculture, labor, and environmental bills remain active, while the rodenticide moratorium bill is dead.

Washington’s 60-day legislative session is approaching key cutoff dates, with nearly 1,200 bills introduced. For pest professionals and small business owners, HB 2516 (rodenticide moratorium) will not advance this session, while HB 2279 (PFAS review in pesticides/fertilizers) and labor-related collective bargaining bills remain active. Lawmakers are also addressing rising state legal liability costs and considering arbitration for tort claims. Action alert: Support HB 2584 (farm machinery tax exemption) at its Feb. 4 hearing.

WSPMA Attends Washington Friends of Farms and Forests Legislative Reception

WSPMA attended the Washington Friends of Farms and Forests Legislative Reception in Olympia, connecting with leaders from agriculture, forestry, and manufacturing to engage with state legislators. WSPMA President Steve Wittig represented the association and participated in productive conversations, including an in-depth discussion with Representative Morgan on HB 2516 and the importance of science-based pest management in protecting public health, homes, businesses, and the food supply.
